Microduck MD-01 software and development
The brand describes an Apache-2.0 software stack. The official runtime uses a 50 Hz policy loop, and the development resources cover MuJoCo simulation, reinforcement learning and ONNX policy export. Software requirements and controls depend on the installed version.
Software sources: official runtime and documentation and official reinforcement learning tools. The controller guide links to versioned controls. Compare controller use, browser simulation, local runtime and policy training before choosing a software setup.
Where Hugging Face fits
Pollen Robotics is part of Hugging Face. Its published Microduck overview lists Hugging Face Jobs as one training option alongside running the physics simulation on your own machine. MuJoCo is the simulation environment; the open-source Microduck repositories contain the runtime and reinforcement-learning tools. Service access and setup depend on the current external tools, while a simulated result is not a physical hardware test.

What can I use now, and what needs development?
- MD-01 controller operation
- The published package includes a game controller. Follow the pairing and controls documentation for the software installed on your unit. See the versioned controller guide.
- MD-01 custom movement and behaviour
- Simulation, policy training and deployment are development tasks. They require the tools and dependencies described in the official reinforcement learning repository.
- MD-01 and larger AI models
- The official FAQ explains that larger models run outside the robot. Open software does not mean every advanced AI feature is included or runs on the robot out of the box.
Capability distinctions checked against official documentation on 15 October 2026. They are not results from a hardware benchmark.
What is included with Microduck MD-01?
The published MD-01 package contains the robot, battery, USB-C cable and game controller. Optional accessory packs are listed separately; review each pack’s contents before ordering.
Sources and ordering
Specifications first reviewed on 11 October 2026 against the Pollen Robotics product overview and published hardware specifications; those public source details were checked again on 15 October 2026. This is a documentation review, not a hardware test. Use software documentation that matches your installed version.
